Marvel boss Kevin Feige says ‘streaming 100% the future’ in a recent interview. January will see the first MCU Disney+ show air with WandaVision. However as we know from Disney’s Investor Day, there are a ton of MCU shows coming to Disney+. That’s not to say the MCU juggernaut is moving into streaming only. There are also plenty of movies filming, or already finished. Right now though of course, getting those movies to theaters in a way that makes money is proving difficult.
Here is what Feige said when he spoke with Emmys.com.
“Streaming is 100 percent the future and where consumers want to watch things,” he says. “And hopefully they’ll want to watch our longform narrative series. An experience like WandaVision is something you can’t get in a movie. You go to movies for things you can’t get on streaming, and you go to streaming for things you can’t get in a theater. And of course, everything in a theater goes to streaming eventually.”
And on choosing to push ahead with WandaVision.
“My team and I were wondering internally about where to go from here, and what would be the next step that was equally challenging and unexpected,” he relates. The notion of extending the brand to television “was an adrenaline boost. Elizabeth and Paul were these amazing actors — who had done amazing things in four movies — but never had a chance to dominate the narrative because there was so much else going on,” he explains. “It felt fun to finally give them a platform to showcase their astounding talent.”

It’s not too long now before we see that first MCU Disney+ show and it feels like a long time coming. On the original MCU plans pre-COVID we should have already seen Black Widow and Eternals in theaters. Not to mention both The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision should have already been out.
