There have not been many examples of a ‘quality’ Marvel fighting game to speak of recently. Whereas with DC, they have the lauded Injustice and Injustice 2 from fighting game specialists NetherRealm who also make the Mortal Kombat games. However, according to Daniel Richtman on his Patreon service, he has heard rumor that NetherRealm are developing a Marvel based game as well.

What is slightly surprising about that rumor is that NetherRealm are ultimately owned by Warner Bros. hence the DC license. However instead of doubting the rumor itself, many fans have become convinced a Marvel Vs DC game is coming. Now, despite me having read the headline already today saying a Marvel Vs DC game was coming, there is no indication of this from Richtman. All the rumor ever was is what I wrote above. That NetherRealm he had heard were developing a Marvel game. This could easily be something Disney are paying for to developers well versed in the genre. We can’t rule out a Marvel Vs DC game, but there is currently no evidence to suggest it either. That’s even if this rumor is legit?

As I’ve written about previously, not all the rumors Richtman shares on his Patreon have been well vetted. Whether this is the case here or not I can’t tell you. In truth a decent Marvel fighting game in the mold of Injustice and its sequel would be great. Equally, if we were to somehow get a Marvel Vs DC game, it would be I think well received as long as the characters were scaled appropriately. That balance would be less easy than you think though. On the whole the DC superheroes are far more powerful and indestructible than the Marvel heroes. Sure, there are small variations here and there, but that’s the general consensus amongst fans of both comic properties.

Either of these possibilities, IF this comes to anything would be welcomed by fans I think. However, it remains to be seen where there is any substance to this one or not? Would you be interested in a Marvel fighting game made by NetherRealm? Thoughts below as always.
