In a rather surprising turn, Marvel and LOST star Evangeline Lilly has decided to give up acting. Whether this is for good, or just for a while, is unknown. However, Lilly made the announcement on her Instagram account just this week. Check out what she had to say by way of transcript below.
“Thank you @lost_theothers for digging up this (nearly twenty-year-old) footage of me speaking out my dreams under (what looks like) a full moon. And thank you to @femalepoetssociety for digging up this (much older) footage of the incredible #mayaangelou perfectly articulating how I feel about life.”
“I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision. Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings. Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment. I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong. A new season has arrived, and I AM READY…and I AM HAPPY.”
So what does this mean for the MCU? Well, it means that Marvel either has to just give up on the Hope Van Dyne (Wasp) character, or recast? Since the flop of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the future of that franchise has been in doubt anyway.

Given that Lilly has no idea if and when she will return to Hollywood, if Marvel did have plans to use Wasp, then I think they need to recast. They could hold the character back until Lilly returns. However, what if she decides she’s not coming back?
I’m sure Lilly is wealthy enough now to not have to work again. Though that really depends how well she manages her finances, or how she has invested. It may be that one day down the line she needs to pay the bills again. It will also be tougher to get gigs upon her return for several reasons. One, she is out the public consciousness and two, most actresses struggle to get work the older they get.
