With Disney’s streaming service coming down the pipe within the next year, why not get ambitious? After all, they own properties that are the envy of the industry, and have made billions and billions of dollars exploiting them. Not the least of these properties is everything that falls under the Marvel banner, and more specifically, everything produced by Marvel Studios for the big screen.

But, as we know, they won’t be producing things just for the big screen any longer, as they will be producing content for Disney+ in the form of limited series with bigger budgets than your actual TV fare. As of right now, the only one officially announced is the Loki series starring Tom Hiddleston, but there are plenty others in the works. Now, a new one that’s been shared by /Film is a What If series.

In the comics, this series explored what would happen if things turned out differently in key moments. The example given is what would have happened if Loki found the hammer of Thor?

This is looking to be an animated anthology series, with actors potentially reprising their roles as the characters. In making it animated, it would require a lot less commitment (and a lot less time and money) to lock down the acting talent. Here are many other “what ifs” shared by the outlet (though these aren’t ones that are necessarily being considered for the series).

“What if Captain America hadn’t vanished during World War II? What if Spider-Man didn’t become a crimefighter? What if Thanos joined the Avengers? What if Captain America was found in 1983? What if Professor X had become Juggernaut? What if Wolverine had killed the Hulk? What if The Hulk always has Bruce Banner’s brain? What if the Avengers defeated everybody? What if Flash Thompson, Betty Brant, and John Jameson had been bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Spider-Man? What if Phoenix had not died? What if the Fantastic Four hadn’t gotten their powers? What if Captain America was elected President? What if J. Jonah Jameson adopted Spider-Man? What if Cable had destroyed The X-Men? What if the world knew Daredevil is blind? What if Namor grew up on land with his human father? What if Daredevil became an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.? What if Elektra had lived? What if Spider-Man Had Rescued Gwen Stacey? What if Aunt May had been killed instead of Uncle Ben? What if Jessica Jones had joined The Avengers? What if the Avengers had become pawns of Korvac?”

You get the idea.

It’s a pretty cool one, and while none of these anthology stories would be canon, it would allow Marvel Studios to branch off in an unexpected direction, which is something I’m sure they want, after all these years.
