A new rumor from One Take News, aka BSL says Marvel to skip SDCC ’22. As you’ll be aware, SDCC ws traditionally the biggest of all the comic-con’s and usually where stalwarts like DC/Marvel would promote their wares. However more recently DC have been doing their own thing at Fandome and Marvel has been propping up the Disney events. Not to mention that Star Wars Celebration, just past is now the place where you’d go as a Star Wars fan.

Here is what OTN reported.

Multiple sources have informed OTN that Marvel Studios will not be holding a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year and no new announcements are planned for the convention. Sources tell us that Disney is looking to focus on the D23 Expo 2022 as it’s the first one since the pandemic and that they want the heavy hitters like Marvel to be there.

Now I guess that does not mean Marvel won’t have a presence of some kind, but a big Hall-H panel, like years gone past, doesn’t look likely.

I guess as more and more focused con’s get off the ground it lessens the importance somewhat of SDCC. However we should remember that there are plenty of studios that don’t have IP’s big enough to do their own thing yet. SDCC will still be the best place for those companies to promote what is coming up and get fans interested.

It is a bit of a shame at the same time. SDCC uses Marvel/DC to get popular, Marvel/DC use SDCC to promote and get new fans. Then Marvel/DC cut out the middle man and do their own thing to make more money. Oh well, It is what it is.
