In honor of The Walt Disney Company’s momentous 100th anniversary, Marvel Comics is joining the celebration with a special monthly DISNEY100 VARIANT COVER PROGRAM. This initiative pays homage to Disney’s incredible legacy of storytelling and iconic characters that have captivated audiences of all ages for a century.
The Disney100 variant program takes fans on a nostalgic journey through Marvel’s past, present, and future, reimagining classic comic book covers through the lens of the beloved “What If” concept. These unique art pieces commemorate the foundational stories, game-changing narratives, and cherished heroines that have shaped the Marvel Universe.
Marvel enthusiasts have been treated to a sneak peek of these extraordinary variant covers, which beautifully merge the enchanting world of Disney with the pivotal moments in Marvel Comics history. Now, the final three covers have been revealed, featuring none other than Mickey Mouse and his friends taking center stage in iconic issues.
Among the notable covers is an enchanting twist on Todd McFarlane’s legendary Amazing Spider-Man #300 cover, showcasing the beloved Disney characters in a momentous battle scene. Additionally, fans will find a Disney-inspired rendition of Secret Wars #1, a groundbreaking crossover event that changed the landscape of comic book storytelling. Lastly, the Disney magic is sprinkled onto X-Men (1991) #1, a milestone issue that remains the best-selling comic book of all time.
In total, the Disney100 variant cover collection consists of 12 covers, each paying tribute to a different aspect of the Marvel Universe. Fans can eagerly anticipate the release of a new Disney100 variant cover, including Black and White versions, every month throughout 2023 at their local comic book shops. These variant covers will be featured on select upcoming issues of Amazing Spider-Man, with the next one set to debut in the highly anticipated milestone issue, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #29, on July 12.
