At the highly anticipated San Diego Comic-Con, retailers were treated to an exclusive lunch hosted by Diamond Comics, featuring special guests Marvel’s VP of Print & Digital Publishing David Gabriel and Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski. Excitement filled the room as attendees received insider information on upcoming projects, new titles, and variant covers. The highlight of the event was the announcement of industry legend Greg Capullo’s return to Marvel Comics later this year.
Capullo, renowned for his exceptional work on X-Force in the 90s and various influential runs across the comic book world, is making his much-awaited comeback to Marvel after decades. The entire Marvel team is proud to welcome him back into the fold. Fans were thrilled to get a sneak peek at Capullo’s first new creation for the Marvel universe, an explosive variant cover for WOLVERINE #37. This top-secret classified variant cover will be hitting comic shop stands on September 20, and preorders are available now.

But that’s not all! Capullo is set to provide an action-packed cover for a special one-shot, DEADPOOL: SEVEN SLAUGHTERS #1, releasing in November. This thrilling issue promises to showcase seven kills in seven days, offering an intense and blood-soaked collection of stories about the mercenary extraordinaire, Deadpool. The one-shot will feature contributions from fan-favorite Deadpool creators, including co-creator Rob Liefeld, Gail Simone, Cullen Bunn, and more.
Another major reveal that had retailers buzzing was Marvel Comics’ plan to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Superior Spider-Man. Following October’s SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN RETURNS one-shot, the creative team of writer Dan Slott and artist Mark Bagley will reunite for an ongoing SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN series. Building upon their successful current Spider-Man run, the new series promises a “SUPERIOR RECKONING” as Spider-Man confronts a formidable new villain from his past. The threat will have the power to unleash destruction on New York City, while Doc Ock makes a life-altering discovery in this epic tribute to everything that made Spider-Man Superior.
The identity of the new villain is being kept tightly under wraps, but fans can look forward to her debut in SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN RETURNS before causing havoc for Otto, Peter, and more in the ongoing series.
