Marvel Will Not Recast T’Challa For Black Panther 2

Wakanda Forever And The Tragedy Of Boseman's Death Kevin Feige Opens Up

I’m still playing catch up with all the news from Friday. One thing we never covered was that Marvel will not recast T’Challa for Black Panther 2. Kevin Feige made the announcement along with all the MCU reveals on Disney’s Investor Day.

“I wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and member of the Marvel Studios family,” Feige said during the live stream. “Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally. His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past. It’s for that reason that we will not recast the character.”

“However, to honor the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king of Wakanda, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film. Writer/director Ryan Coogler is hard at work on the sequel now, and we’ll bring the film to you in theaters July 8, 2022.”

How this will work is anyone's guess. The top tip seems to be having Shuri replace T'Challa as the Black Panther. Personally, I don't like that idea, I like Shuri, I don't think she'd work as Black Panther. My preference would be to have a plot where somehow a changed Killmonger comes back as the new King, I'd choose that over M'bakku or Shuri. It's such a sad situation, but I'm still not sure whether recasting was the right option or not? Ultimately, the show goes on in Hollywood and roles have been recast in many movies due to untimely deaths. An off-screen death for T'Challa somehow feels wrong to me, but I will wait and see what Coogler comes up with.   Are you happy, or otherwise that Marvel will not recast T'Challa in Black Panther 2? As always leave your thoughts below.
