Remember when it seemed like Season 5 of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD may be the last? Then ABC announced that Season 6 would be going ahead after all, but with a delay in production and a shorter season. You can check our coverage of Season 6 production in the related section below.

That 6th Season still hasn’t hit TV screens and yet now we have an announcement by ABC that the show has officially been renewed for Season 7. Here is the official announcement that was sent out to press over the weekend.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has been given a Season 7 order, Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment, announced today.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” was co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serve as executive producers along with Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television for ABC.

Pretty dry press release, but there are some interesting items to note here. Firstly there is no mention in the cast list of Clark Gregg, aka Phil Coulson the lead character of the show. Now, since Season 6 will not air until summer 2019, we have no idea if Coulson will leave the show in this next season or whether his fate will left unresolved somehow?

There is also no indication at all of when this is set to air, or how many episodes it will run for. Will it go back to the model of Seasons 1-5 or stick with the shorter episode count we know is happening for Season 6.

The show must be doing better than it first appeared, because announcing Season 7 before 6 even airs is a bold move for a show that seemed to be losing viewers.

I’d better get a move on and finish Season 5 sometime over the winter.

What do you think of the news, are you happy Agents of SHIELD will be carrying on for the time being? Sound off in the comments below.
