Marvel’s Avengers Beta and Second War Table Presentation Announced

Marvel's Avengers pre-order bonuses include access to beta ...

The wait for players to get their hands on Marvel’s Avengers game is almost over. It’s been a year since the release of the first A-Day gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Avengers. The initial issues with the game’s aesthetics and the the four-month delay of the release were concerning.  However, my expectations for this game have remained high. At this point, the more I see of the game, the harder it is to wait for launch!

While the full release isn’t until September 4, we’ve known for quite some time that players would be given the opportunity to check the game out early during the beta. That said, we’ve had to wait quite a while without any info on when the beta would be made available. Until now.

Launch Dates

As part of its ongoing exclusive coverage of Marvel’s Avengers, IGN got the scoop on the exact beta launch dates:

  • August 7 – PlayStation preorder beta launch
  • August 14 – Xbox and PC preorder beta / PlayStation open beta launch
  • August 21 – Open beta launch for all platforms.

The outlet also revealed the date for Crystal Dynamics’ next War Table presentation – July 29 at 10 a.m. PT. While the previous War Table video showcased story elements, gameplay and customization, this next one will focus on what gamers can expect from the upcoming beta.

What To Expect

Speaking with IGN on the subject, Crystal Dynamics Creative Director Shaun Escayg briefly explained that we can expect to try out a little bit of everything the full game will have to offer upon launch.

“We built the beta in such a way that you can experience most of the things that you’ll be doing in the full game. That means playing a piece of the original single-player Avengers story campaign, fighting through co-op missions, experiencing hero and world progression, and exploring War Zones and DROP ZONES, a new kind of mission we’ll talk about in the upcoming War Table on July 29. This beta is meaty, but it’s only a small part of the finished game.”

Given the fact that there wasn’t much promotion or many details on the game provided until recently, I’m happy the developers are finally giving us a decent look at the game through these War Table demonstrations. It seems they’re trying to take the hype for the game up a notch before launch.

As someone who’s really been looking forward to playing as each of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with Alan Silvestri’s famous theme playing in the background, I really hope next month’s beta blows us all away and has us ready to assemble come September 4.
