We all knew that Marvel was looking to push ahead with an Eternals movie, it’s been talked about by the likes of Kevin Feige for some time now and we had even heard that Chloe Zhao (The Rider) was attached to direct the movie. Now thanks to Geek Vibes Nation who got their information from Production Weekly, we have some confirmation of when production begins for Eternals.

So production will begin in Atlanta in August for Eternals and Chloe Zhao will be in the director chair working from a script by Ryan Firpo. One could assume it would be 2020 when the movie is released, but when isn’t clear yet.
Exactly how we will get the point where Eternals makes sense appearing in the MCU is still up for debate. Will this spawn from something in Avengers: Endgame, we have to remember after all that Thanos is himself a child of Eternals? We have no real idea how Avengers: Endgame is going to wrap up and perhaps there could be something in the movie which signals the way in for an Eternals movie?
Then again, the Guardians of the Galaxy movie kind of appeared without any kind of hints or set up when it arrived and it was a breath of fresh air. I must admit to being not too familiar with the comic’s source when it comes to these characters. I had a vague recollection of the name Eternals when it was first proposed as an MCU movie and did a little research to refresh my memory from there.
There are so many unknowns for this movie that it’s hard to speculate too much yet, we don’t even know for sure which Eternals will show up in the movie and what their motivations may be. It’s hard to shake the feeling that Thanos actions may bring them into the MCU fold, but realistically that’s only a guess with no substance. They may also choose to set Eternals in the very distant past, but that doesn’t quite feel like the right move for the MCU.
I guess we may start to find out more as this year progresses and we move closer to production beginning in August.
