The folks over at The Illuminerdi have revealed some Marvel’s What If…? Killmonger details. The outlet has been regularly updating about details they are hearing around the upcoming animated series on Disney+. This time it’s an episode that takes the basic premise, what if Erik Killmonger and Tony Stark were friends?
Our sources have informed us that Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Stevens/Killmonger will be a key player in an episode of Marvel Studios’ What If…?. However, rather than going after the throne of Wakanda, Stevens will go international thanks to a new friendship with Tony Stark.
There is not much more detail to this yet, For example the outlet does not know whether Killmonger will still be an antagonist or go down a completely different path. The Illuminerdi also says they’ve heard an episode of the show will see Tony take Thor’s place in a trip to Sakaar and ponders what connections there could be to their exclusive.
However, there could be none? One possibility for What If…? is that each episode is completely standalone from what came before. Honestly, we really don’t know yet and that’s kinda cool. Ultimately these animated shows could all be different timelines that are connected to the current Loki show, or again, there is no connection that those events whatsoever.

There’s an episode about Captain Carter. One about Ultron winning and only Black Widow left alive. Now this Killmonger and Tony story. Add to that the party Thor episode and the one we all knew was coming, the zombies episode, and perhaps one with Tony going to Sakaar to the mix. You almost feel like we know what to expect. The thing is, I really don’t think we do know just what to expect from any of these vague outlines for now.
