Matrix 4 Set Videos Show Neo And Trinity Back In Action — But Is It All Too Familiar?

This wouldn’t be the first time that I’ve voiced my concerns over The Matrix 4. I’ve previously commented on being worried about it this movie. I loved The Matrix, but overall, looking at the trilogy, not so much. The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions were pretty bad for me as a fan. I can’t see a situation where I would willingly watch either movie again.

My concern then for The Matrix 4 is that we will get something more akin to the latter two movies, not that amazing first film. These latest batch of set videos have done nothing so far to assuage my fears. If anything, I feel concerned now that everything looks too familiar to what has come before.

This first set video taken by a fan on location in San Francisco, shows what we think are stunt doubles for Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss. It looks something like the jump scene from the first movie as the characters jump and then plummet off a building. The difference here is that it looks to me like Trinity is catching hold of Neo and stopping him from falling further. Perhaps she is even pulling him back up? In the previous movies the only character who could take flight was Neo himself. Check it out.

This second video you can catch courtesy of Ayako Ueda, and it shows Trinity and Neo traveling together on a motorbike. Again it reminds me instantly of the first movie where Trinity is basically looking after Neo in his ignorance. Though, this one could really be anything at this point. Check it out.

Neither of these videos gives us much of an idea what is going on, not yet anyway. Both Trinity and Neo are dead in the timeline of The Matrix franchise we have seen so far. We know that Neo is prophesized to return, but how does Trinity come back? The one character that will be missing is Morpheus, played by Lawrence Fishburne this time around.

We do know that Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has a major role in the movie, and there have even been rumors that his could be a lead role. So far Abdul-Mateen II has not been set in any set photos or videos, so for me, it looks like our two leads are Neo and Trinity again. There has been plenty of speculation that Abdul-Mateen II may be playing a younger version of Morpheus. However, it is just speculation at this time. For a start, a young Morpheus would indicate a prequel to me, and with an older looking Trinity and Neo, that seems unlikely. What about the son of Morpheus and Niobe? Those two looked set to settle down after the end of the third movie. Could their son be drawn back into the Matrix to find Neo again?

If Lana Wachowski is somehow able to deliver that lightning in a bottle feel she and her sister did with The Matrix, then I am on board. Like I said, my worry is that the percentages favor the bad, rather than the good. I hope I’m wrong, but those sequels really burned me bad.

What do you think of the set videos and Reeves carrying on his John Wick look for The Matrix 4? Take the red pill to follow the white rabbit into the comments. Or, take the blue pill to believe whatever you want to believe.
