There’s been a lot of talk about this, now Matt Reeves comments on the rumor that Battinson is wanted for the DCU Batman. Some insiders have been claiming for a while that James Gunn wants The Reeves BatVerse to become a part of his fledgling DCU. Gunn himself has always said it’s not true, but the rumors persist. Plus, you’ve gotta imagine those Golden Globes wins won’t go unnoticed for The Penguin. Gunn has at least always said the idea has been ‘discussed’ in DC towers.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz at the red carpet of the Globes Reeves had this to say about Gunn’s comments.
“Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it really comes down to whether or not it makes sense. What’s been great is there was a story that I wanted to tell that we’re calling The Epic Crime Saga which is the thrust of what we wanted to do. It’s been important to me to be able to play that out. James and Peter have been really, really great about that and they’re letting us do that.”
“What the future brings, I can’t really tell you. I have no idea right now except that my head is down now about getting The Batman Part II shooting and to make it something special which is, of course, the most important thing.”
Horowitz kept pushing to which Reeves replied, “I don’t know. We’ll have to see where that goes.”

I have to say, I am beginning to wonder if the rumors are true. Jointly, I also have to say, I’m absolutely up for that if it happens. Batman can have a completely different tone from Superman in the comics. The trick is to get the tone right when the icons are paired up, which could be a long time away still.
I guess we will see what happens, but I won’t dismiss this out of hand so much anymore.
