In a recent interview Matt Reeves comments on The Batman Part II script security, plus the future of the Emmy winning Penguin series. Speaking with Variety at the Emmy red carpet, Reeves talked about the upcoming The Batman Part II.
“We start shooting [the film] in spring, probably around the end of April or beginning of May,” director Matt Reeves told Variety‘s Marc Malkin on the Emmys red carpet. “It’s been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson [Tomlin] did, and we’ve started to share it with Robert [Pattinson].”
“We put [the script] into a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code. [Pattinson] was in New York at the time, and everything is high security.”
Pattinson did get to keep the lock box and script,
“We really trust Rob, because he’s the best.”
Of course the reason they were all there, was that The Penguin, a limited series was nominated for and won some Emmy’s. Reeves was an executive producer on The Penguin which is itself a spin-off from his own The Batman movie.
The Penguin was only intended as a limited series. However, ever since it finished, the creatives have been keen to explore ideas for a second season.

Reeves once again echoed that wish to explore what’s next.
“We’re in discussions. [Showrunner] Lauren [Lefranc] is thinking hard and we’re talking, so we’ll see. We love the show, and we think our cast is so incredible. The work that Lauren and the writers did was incredible. Our passion was in it, but never in our wildest dreams could we imagine it would have been received in the way that it was.”
I’m excited to see where The Batman Part II goes, and to be fair the security is not uncommon in this day and age. As for the future of The Penguin? I’d love to see a Season 2… But only if they have a really good idea like Lefranc has been saying. I don’t want them to cash in on a great season 1 and leave us wishing they left it at that.
