Meet the 1968 Mid-Engine Charger Featured in F9

As the countdown begins to start the in-person movie theater summer, Universal Pictures releases short videos introducing the main characters in the anticipated action film F9—the cars. Yes, it’s all about the cars.

In its short inaugural season titled “Get Fast & Furious with John Cena,” the muscled actor and villain of F9 launched its first episode with the “1968 Mid-Engine Charger.” Of course, he got to introduce the muscle car.

If you watch the video, you’ll get a little sneak peak of some scenes and a major stunt sequence involving a 16-wheeler (I really don’t know how many wheels, but it’s mighty impressive). One of the big  reveals in this reveal for the Charger is that they moved the engine to the back of the car instead of the front. Obviously, it’s for a stunt sequence.

Here’s the official synopsis:

No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past.

F9 is the ninth chapter in the Fast & Furious saga, which has endured for two decades and has earned more than $5 billion around the world.

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena).

The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teaming streets of Tbilisi.

Returning to the helm is director Justin Lin, who was behind the camera for the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series. The returning cast also includes Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, and Sung Kang along with Helen Mirren, Kurt Russel, and Charlize Theron. New cast members include singing superstar Cardi B as a new franchise character Leysa, and a cameo by Reggaeton sensation Ozuna.

F9 races into theaters on June 25.
