Director Mike Roth wanted to create a different animation with the DC Universe with Batman and the villains. Merry Little Batman became the animated Christmas film that makes everyone feel like a kid.

The voice cast includes Luke Wilson (Old School, The Royal Tenenbaums), Yonas Kibreab (Sweeth Tooth, Obi-Wan Kenobi), James Cromwell (L.A. Confidential, The Green Mile), and David Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mythic Quest).

Merry Little Batman was produced by Warner Bros. Animation and is based on characters from DC.

This Christmas, Damian Wayne wants to be a superhero like his dad—the one and only Batman. When Damian is left home alone while Batman takes on Gotham’s worst supervillains on Christmas Eve, he stumbles upon a villainous plot to steal Christmas and leaps at the chance to save the day.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with director Mike Roth on animating this story, the Christmas plot, the father-son relationship, the villains, and the song “Batman Smells.”

Mike Roth made his directorial debut as a co-director in the animated series Regular Show. He worked in the animated departments for SpongeBob SquarePants, Tom and Jerry Tales, The SpongeBobo SquarePants Movie, The Proud Family, Rugrats Go Wild. Also he wrote episodes for Regular Show, Phineas and Ferb, and Camp Lazlo!
