Michael Bay’s Ambulance Reminds Me Why I Don’t Like Michael Bay

I feel like I’m about to pull out a grenade pin, but here it goes. I really don’t like Michael Bay films. The image I picked of Jake Gyllenhaal seemed fitting. “You don’t like Michael Bay movies! How dare you!” Universal Pictures released the trailer for Michael Bay’s Ambulance a few days ago. After seeing the trailer, I feel like I already watched the whole movie and I’m not impressed. I’m just not a Michael Bay fan. I didn’t like the Transformers franchise and I feel like they didn’t age well. The Island wasn’t worth a second watch and I don’t remember much. I don’t remember Bad Boys at all and didn’t want to watch Bad Boys II. Pearl Harbor had such a cringeworthy love scene and thinking back on it, it’s freaking hilarious. Although, Armageddon was ok.

Michael Bay Ambulance Official Trailer released

The Synopsis:

Over one day across the streets of L.A., three lives will change forever. In this breakneck thriller from director-producer Michael Bay, decorated veteran Will Sharp (Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Candyman, The Matrix Resurrections), desperate for money to cover his wife’s medical bills, asks for help from the one person he knows he shouldn’t—his adoptive brother Danny (Oscar® nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, Zodiac, Spider-Man: Far From Home). A charismatic career criminal, Danny instead offers him a score: the biggest bank heist in Los Angeles history: $32 million. With his wife’s survival on the line, Will can’t say no.

Um… Yes, He Can!

But when their getaway goes spectacularly wrong, the desperate brothers hijack an ambulance with a wounded cop clinging to life and ace EMT Cam Thompson (Eiza González, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Baby Driver) onboard. In a high-speed pursuit that never stops, Will and Danny must evade a massive, city-wide law enforcement response, keep their hostages alive, and somehow try not to kill each other, all while executing the most insane escape L.A. has ever seen.

I love a lot of Jake Gyllenhaal’s work, but I don’t think I’ll enjoy Ambulance. I hate watching movies where the characters make extremely stupid choices and asking someone like Danny for help is a really stupid choice. It can work for certain movies, for example, movies designed to make you think or designed for comedy. If you know you shouldn’t ask a certain person in your life for help, don’t. I get that his wife is sick, but if he fails, he loses the money and his wife and kid when he goes to prison or worse. Also, this breakneck thriller didn’t seem very thrilling to me, but maybe you’ll enjoy it.
