According to the latest Barside Buzz, Michael Waldron is no longer the writer for Avengers 5. As we know Waldron was not the original writer for the film. Waldron was brought in after a change of direction by Marvel. Waldron was already writing Avengers: Secret Wars when he was given the job.
The information comes from Nexus Point News who just had a win by correctly revealing there was a Cap 4 trailer coming last week. Per the outlet;
‘The next installments of the Avengers franchise continue to remain in flux as Marvel Studios’ Avengers 5 has once again lost a writer. As we have learned from our sources, Michael Waldron has departed from the project, leaving it without a director, writer, and official title now.’
However, as the site also points out, this may not be the major shift it seems. It’s possible that Waldron’s base script is now simply being touched up by another hand. Marvel quite often does this after all. Or, Marvel didn’t like it and now are in a race to get a new script. I kinda hope it’s the former. Especially as Waldron is still writing Secret Wars.

‘As we reported earlier this month, the film is looking to start shooting in late-March of 2025 through August of that year. With eight months left until production commences, it’s likely that Waldron’s replacement will only come aboard to revise and touch up Waldron’s script. On the other hand, this would not be the first time Marvel Studios has hired a writer to rewrite a script under a time constraint. In 2020, Waldron himself was hired to rewrite Scott Derrickson and Jade Halley Bartlett’s script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness three weeks prior to shooting.’
With Avengers 5 set to begin shooting in 2025, chances are we find out more soon. Marvel have been on the hunt for a director, it’s possible that they have one. In fact, this may be the reason Waldron is leaving the writing duties. A new director may want to take that basic script and make it their own. Possibly using their own writer to switch a few things round. I would not be shocked if a director, and a new title is announced at SDCC soon.
This is a rumor though, so pinch of salt as always.
