We all thought they were crazy. We all thought they couldn’t do it. We all thought the idea of an animated Spider-Man film in tandem with the live-action Tom Holland Spider-Man film was a stupid idea. Okay, maybe I’m just speaking for myself here, but I have no problem taking a few of you with me. The point is, even if you were excited about an animated Spider-Man film, chances are you could not have predicted Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
This gorgeously-animated, ambitious looks poised to please audiences aplenty when it hits theaters later next month, and Sony seems to be high on it. Not only have they allowed critics to post their reviews, but they’ve also started developing a sequel and a spin-off, the former of which will continue following Miles Morales and the latter of which will likely (though it’s not confirmed) follow Gwen Stacy and a few other Spider-women. Now, they’ve released a pretty extensive scene of the film online.
Check it.

In the scene above, we see Miles and Peter infiltrate some tech HQ and steal some piece of tech. Of course, the duo is caught, and they find themselves having to swing their way to safety, with Miles pretty much learning as he goes and Peter proving to be kind of an awful teacher in the best way possible. They then find themselves wrapped up by Gwen Stacy, who introduces herself as an inhabitant of another dimension.
The piece is just over two minutes long, and it really lets the scene play out in full. It’s a nice change of pace from the usual 30 or 40-second clips that we often get, and a clear indication that Sony has mad faith in this one. If we’re to believe the word of many of our critical brethren out their (including LRM’s resident critic Fox Troilo), then we’re in for a real treat.
