Mindy Kaling Said She’d Be Happy To Help Marvel With Ms. Marvel Project

We may be 11 years deep into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it’s still stronger than ever. With Avengers: Endgame successfully released, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on the horizon, there’s still a hell of a lot of interest in what Marvel Studios will be bringing to the big and small screen for years to come. In addition to plenty of sequels, the likes of Shang-Chi and The Eternals promises plenty of new content, and that’s not even mentioning the Disney+ shows.

But what other characters are there? With Captain Marvel hitting the big screen earlier this year to big box office success, it’s hard not to at least think of another name that carries the Marvel moniker — Ms. Marvel.

The particular iteration of the character we’re referring to is Kamal Khan. Kamala is a Pakistani-American girl who looks up to Captain Marvel and is able to stretch her body and increase/decrease her size (as well as the size of body parts) at will. And as far as her personality goes, she very much embodies the fan-centric millennial era we live in. But will we ever get a film or series? Speaking with MTV News, writer and actor Mindy Kaling revealed she’s had discussions with Marvel regarding a potential adaptation:

“I think the people I’ve spoken to Marvel about it are so excited about the character and I think that they’re trying to figure out what to do with it, and I told them i would help in any way, because I truly love her. But they seemed really interested and I think they probably will do something. Now that they’re like the streaming platform with them, it might be something like that. I think they understand how much there is the excitement, you know. Riz [Ahmed], me, every Desi actor was very excited.”

While this doesn’t guarantee an adaptation any time soon, it is nice to know they’re considering the options. What isn’t clear is whether or not she means Marvel Studios or not. As it stands, it’s very possible she could have been speaking with Marvel Television, and that can result in a very different show.

I, for one, can see this character living on Disney+, but wouldn’t rule out the big screen. Maybe in a few years, I can see her taking on a role in the world kind of like Peter Parker, who looked up to Tony…only Kamala would be looking up to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers.
