CinemaCon 2018: Miss Bala Trailer Reaction and Exclusive Interviews

This is not your usual niceness of Gina Rodriguez from Jane the Virgin.

It was thought that the original 2011 Spanish-version of Miss Bala was already perfect that placed its star Stephanie Sigman on the map. Sigman now stars in the hit TV show S.W.A.T.

That film version directed by Gerardo Naranjo garnered multiple nominations through multiple film festivals, including one at the Cannes Film Festival.

So an English version with director Catherine Hardwick (Twilight) with Rodriguez may seem unnecessary.

However, this Miss Bala makes the Spanish-version look light-weight.

The sizzle real revealed at CinemaCon 2018 this week showed a more tough beauty pageant competitor fending off criminals. In one scene, she wears a red hot dress and brandishing a semi-automatic in one hand. This film has plenty of explosions to boot. In one scene, Rodriguez drove a car to an undisclosed building. The bad guys denoted the car after she joined the criminals in a spectacular explosion.

It almost seems like it barely kept the basic elements of the main character being a pageant contestant, Tijuana, witnessing a murder and underground Mexican criminals.

LRM caught up with director Catherine Hardwick with Gina Rodriguez and Ismael Cruz Cordova on the red carpet before their presentation for Sony Pictures.

Hardwick revealed that she changed the lead character to be more stronger than the Spanish version. And the characters will be mixing Spanish and English languages throughout the film. And sadly, there will be no cameos of the Spanish actors in this English film.
