On the heels of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many other studios quickly hopped on board the “cinematic universe train.” Two other big contenders — the DC Extended Universe and the Dark Universe — either got off to a rocky start or were nixed completely after the first entry. One universe that managed to do pretty solidly for itself, however, was the MonsterVerse, featuring King Kong and Godzilla.
Godzilla, boring or not (it’s totally boring), did well enough to warrant a continuation, and Kong: Skull Island managed to be a fun thrill ride that, in spite of its narrative flaws, captured exactly what many audiences wanted to see — crazy monster action. Coming up next we have Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and it will all culminate in Godzilla vs. Kong. In the current age of filmmaking, it’s often assumed that the filmmakers are a couple of movies ahead of us, but speaking with Toho Kingdom (via Dark Horizons), producer Alex Garcia doesn’t make it sound like they’re too deep on the later movie:
“We take it one movie at a time. We’re working with [director] Adam Wingard, working toward Godzilla vs. Kong, but the right now the focus is all on [Godzilla 2] . . . It’s one brick at a time. There’s obviously a goal of what we want the whole thing to look like, but each piece has to be as good as it can be. Could there be [future movies]? Yeah, that’s the hope if the movies turn out really well.”

But, of course, the really big takeaway here is that the producer drops is their openness to continue on the story. Of course, that’s basically like asking someone if they want to make more money. The answer will always be yes. If this franchise is successful, of course, it will continue. So it’s not a huge surprise.
But what do you think of that possibility? Do you want to see future adventures of Godzilla and King Kong? I know as far as Godzilla goes, there is plenty of mythology to go on for the future, so it’s not like they’d be wanting for content, right? Let us know your thoughts down below!
