If you’re an X-Men fan, there are a host of amazing villains to choose from. Magneto and Apocalypse are they usual go-to’s. While those are excellent choices, mine however has always been one who does not get as much love as the others: Mr. Sinister. First of all, he looks terrifying. Always has, always will. Even in the 1990s cartoon he is the stuff of nightmares. While he has yet to get any love on the big screen he will in fact make an appearance in Hulu’s M.O.D.O.K.
The image below is from the 1990s series. See what I mean? Terrifying. Anyways, Hulu’s M.O.D.O.K. is a stop-motion series geared towards adults. Jordan Blum and Pat Oswalt are the creators of the series. Blum took to Twitter to reveal the inclusion of Mr. Sinister:
For those who missed it, the very fabulous Mr. Sinister will be popping up on @MarvelsMODOK in all his deep v-neck glory. If you need a quicker Sinister fix I highly recommend @zebwells Hellions comic. A real treat for cape fetishists. pic.twitter.com/wiYg6Xifu0

If you are a Mr. Sinister fan, or want to know more about him, I would highly recommend Hellions comic as well. For those unfamiliar, Mr. Sinister’s actual name is Nathaniel Essex. His obsession with the evolution of mutants is his driving force. He enhances his own powers by experimenting on mutant DNA and even creates mutant clones for his gain. Mr. Sinister eventually crosses paths with Apocalypse who grants him more powers and immortality. Mutant experimentation continues to be his focus for the unending quest for knowledge of mutant evolution. Again…terrifying.

I am glad Mr. Sinister will be represented in M.O.D.O.K. However, he still has not been given the focus he deserves. There have been multiple teases. The after-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse shows men coming with the Essex Corp. brief case in order to get Wolverine’s DNA after he went on a wild killing spree. Fans thought this would be in a follow-up film, but we again are meet with disappointment because the film does not meet expectations. Still, some thought he would appear in Logan since X-23 is present. But it never happened.
Deadpool 2 gives us a nice tease with the orphanage donning the name Essex. It is used as a “rehabilitation” center when there is really mutant experimentation going on behind the scenes. Unfortunately again, no Mr. Sinister. There is real potential to bringing him to the big screen. For now, however, we will have to go back the the 1990s series and check out M.O.D.O.K.
What are your thoughts? Will you be checking out Hulu’s M.O.D.O.K.? Do you feel like Mr. Sinister needs some more love? Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
