Mulan, New Mutants Get Delayed

Mulan new mutants

I think all of us were just waiting to see when Mulan would get delayed. This was a film that cost Disney a pretty penny to make — and I didn’t see the House of Mouse squandering the launch. Why release such a high-profile film in the midst of a pandemic? Luckily, Disney finally made the difficult decision, pushing Mulan back from its March 27 release date.

Mulan director Niki Caro took to Instagram to comment on the news.

“We are so excited to share this film with the world,” she wrote, “but given the current ever-shifting circumstances we are all experiencing, unfortunately, we have to postpone the worldwide release of Mulan for now. Our hearts are with everyone the world over who is affected by this virus, and we hope that Mulan’s fighting spirit will continue to inspire those who are working so hard to keep us all safe.”

But it’s not the only Disney film to get pushed. We also have the film with the worst luck in the world: The New Mutants. It should have hit theaters TWO YEARS AGO.  We still don’t know fully WHY the film was delayed. There were rumors of reshoots, but those never took place, and director Josh Boone has gone on to say that they would never have been extensive. Of course, the Disney merger really held things up as well, and it was finally due to hit on April 3. It’s only fitting that it’d get one more delay in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

As of this writing, we have no idea when the movie will launch, but Disney is currently looking at new release dates for all their properties. There has been no statement from 20th Century Studios on when to expect The New Mutants to hit.

Given the fact that all the studios are pushing everything back, I can only imagine how crowded things will get once the pandemic has subsided.
