Mystery Marvel Film Set to Film In England Next June – Is It Black Widow?

Whilst the as yet untitled Avengers 4 marks the end of the lengthy phase 3 movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we still don’t know a whole lot about what comes after that. We have Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is currently filming in London, and this movie should mark the start of Phase 4 (if Marvel is even calling it that anymore).

What other projects are currently confirmed? Well, so far only really Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been announced as a definite, and with all the fallout from the James Gunn firing, who knows what will happen with that movie’s schedule. Other than that, we had hints at Doctor Strange 2 from director Scott Derrickson. Marvel has hinted at a The Eternals movie and we have a bit more progress on the proposed Black Widow movie which I’ll come back to.

Now TheGWW has reported that sources at Omega Underground claim Marvel is gearing up to start production on an unnamed movie, and that it should start filming in June next year in England. The report has no real other details as to what exactly this movie will be, though the outlet throws their hat into the ring for a Black Widow movie. Black Widow does seem to be the most likely options as it seems further along in the development cycle than either Doctor Strange 2 or The Eternals. As of now, the Black Widow movie has a writer in Jac Schaeffer, a rumored director in Cate Shortland as reported by THR and it would also match the expected 2020 release date for that movie.

Of course, it is also possible this could be Doctor Strange 2 as the first movie filmed in England, and that movie already has its director and star attached. Director Scott Derrickson hinted on social media of a reunion in September this year with the Sorcerer Supreme, but unless that has now been shifted to June, it doesn’t seem like the likely candidate at this time. As for The Eternals, well it doesn’t appear like this movie has a writer, stars or director attached yet, so we can mark this one up as least likely of the three.

As a fan, I kind of feel Doctor Strange 2 would be a better draw after Avengers 4 closes a chapter on much of the previous MCU, rather than what I would assume is a prequel story for Black Widow. However, Black Widow is still a movie I want to see happen and I hope it’s really quite different from any other MCU movie so far. In my head, I imagine a more serious, spy story from before there were aliens and Infinity Stones to contend with.

Do you think Black Widow will hit theaters in 2020? Are you excited for a Black Widow movie, or would prefer to see something else gearing up? Sound off in the usual place below.
