Game of Thrones may not have ended on an incredibly high note with its controversial eighth season, but there is no doubt — as indicated by the ratings — that audiences have grown to love what the high fantasy TV series offered. There will certainly be a void to fill, and up to help out with that is the impending prequel series, whose pilot has just begun filming in Northern Ireland.
Speaking with AP Entertainment, Naomi Watts spoke up regarding the pressure surrounding joining the franchise. here’s what she had to say.
“It is intimidating. It’s very exciting, and yes having just come off the last series where the world was blowing up over it. Everything was Game of Thrones-related. All the advertising on TV. Every article. Everyone was jumping on that bandwagon. It’s scary. But hopefully those fans come along and get to find something new and interesting in this world as well. I think they won’t be let down. It’s a great team of people they’ve put together.”

Yeah, no shocker there. Watts is understandably anxious about hopping on board such a big series. I can only imagine it’s even scarier now that the finale didn’t really stick the landing as many had hoped. She sees just how angry the fandom could get over the whole thing. Luckily, one benefit the new series has it that it will contain new characters, and as such, audiences will be slightly less attached to them than who came before…at least for the first few seasons.
