Netflix has cancelled Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead spin-offs, have they finally realized he’s rubbish? Okay, fairly inflammatory headline, but I like to give my opinions on the news and I’m not a fan of Zack Snyder’s work. Far as I can tell, pretty much every movie Snyder has made for Netflix has been savaged by both critics and audiences alike. I mean, apart from those 12 Snyder fans who think he’s the secret love child of Steven Spielberg and Martin(a?) Scorsese.
Anyway, the news itself comes from The Wrap who interviewed Snyder and his wife recently. Here are the relevant quotes.
“Army of the Dead,” a movie the Snyders made for Netflix before “Rebel Moon,” had a similarly ambitious plan, with several sequels and spin-offs in the works (one, the prequel “Army of Thieves,” was actually released), along with an animated series. The animated series was quietly canceled, along with plans for subsequent films. Zack said, “We are very ambitious with everything.” And “Army of the Dead” isn’t entirely dead, as Deborah pointed out that there will be a themed experience coming to the Six Flags theme parks this Halloween. “It’s going to be a really cool experience,” she added.

There’s nothing here really to indicate that Snyder and Netflix are about to part ways. Despite my opinion on Snyder. It does seems like the Rebel Moon project is still going. However, given how much those movies cost, and how poorly they were received, one wonders? Did Netflix, like WB get drawn in by those 12 Snyder fans who made thousands upon thousands of bot posts supporting Snyder. Then WB let him make his Justice League and still no one cared about it. Are Netflix now realizing they got scammed and the amount of Snyder fans out there is less that they thought?
Who knows? I guess we may get an answer in time. It’s pretty obvious my own views are a little biased here. Still, the facts are the facts. The Army of the Dead franchise is pretty much dead.
