Netflix continues to check off their list of interesting and innovative talent. Deadline reports that they’ve snagged another big comic book legend for a new series. The project in question is an original series called Cursed, and it hails from The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City author Frank Miller and Puss in Boots writer/producer Tom Wheeler.
Cursed, which is a re-imagining of the familiar Arthurian legend, has been given a 10-episode order from the streaming giant. Interestingly enough, while this technically could be considered an “original” project, it is based on Wheeler’s yet-to-be-released YA novel of the same name. Miller is providing full-color illustrations for the novel. In this story, we will follow the story through the eyes of Nimue, who is destined to become the Lady of the Lake.
Here’s what Deadline has to say about the series:
“After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.”
While I have had more than my fill of series/films based on the Arthurian legend, Miller’s involved, and this new perspective, do have me a little bit intrigued. This may be one I’ll be keeping a keen eye on the trailers for.
