Ozark Season 2 was released just over a month ago and just like with the first season, it has been almost immediately renewed by Netflix for Season 3. As a huge fan of the show, this pleases me greatly but comes as no surprise.
Whilst Season 2 of Ozark doesn’t seem to have generated quite the buzz of the original, there was no lack of quality in Season 2. Once again it had me hooked until the final episode. Much of the Season 1 buzz came from the fact that it just appeared on Netflix with very little fanfare and as viewers began watching, the word of mouth spread quickly.

Ozark also features Jason Bateman in a more serious performance, as he is far more well known for comedic roles. Let me just say that Bateman is fantastic in Ozark, for me the best performances he has ever delivered and he is joined by a stellar cast including the likes of Laura Linney and Julia Garner. Ozark follows the story of Marty Byrde and his family and begins very dramatically as Marty’s partner is caught creaming some extra money from the pairs drug money laundering business, which does not go down too well with the Mexican drug cartel. Marty desperate to save the lives of his family, agrees to a grand plan to keep laundering money for the drug cartel in the Ozarks. But nothing is ever easy, and so Marty and his family find themselves having to contend with local criminals, an obsessed FBI agent and ever watchful eyes of the cartel.
Season 2 was just as fantastic a ride as the first one and I for one cannot wait to see where things go in Season 3. Check out star Jason Bateman’s post on Twitter below.

Chris Mundy is set to return as executive producer and showrunner, whilst Bateman who directed multiple episodes from the first and second season, also serves as an executive producer along with Mundy and series creators Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams. Ozark Season 3 will follow the usual 10 episode run, and whilst no release date has yet been revealed it is expected that Ozark will return around the back end of summer 2019.
I think anyone I have recommended Ozark to has loved it, so if you subscribe to Netflix then check out Season 1 and 2 if you have not done so already. I was so impressed with the character arc of Laura Linney’s Wendy Byrde in Season 2, that I am excited to see how things develop as the story progresses. I do hope that the series creators have an end game in mind, because like Breaking Bad before it, the story manages to signpost what is going to happen and yet surprise you continually with the details. I just hope they can deliver a satisfactory ending, but not yet! It’s far too soon to be thinking about the end already.
