Netflix’s Bird Box Trailer: If You See It, You’re Dead

Hollywood is getting pretty darn good about making thrillers that mess with the senses. Earlier this year, we got the movie A Quiet Place, and in it, the characters needed to remain quiet for fear of stirring the deadly creatures that were about. Now, it looks like Netflix is taking the exact opposite approach for their new Sandra Bullock-starring film Bird Box.

In the first trailer for the film, we are introduced to a world where there’s a Happening-esque force that makes people go insane and start to kill themselves. They soon learn that this mysterious force takes the form of your greatest fear…but only if you see it. Of course, this means that our characters then have to run around with blindfolds, and that’s where the fun starts.

Personally, I’m interested in the basic premise and hope they bring as much ingenuity as A Quiet Place, though part of me is also worried this will bring about the next Happening. Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen.

Below is the official synopsis to Bird Box:

“When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded. Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock leads an all-star cast that includes Trevante Rhodes, with Sarah Paulson, and John Malkovich in #BirdBox, a compelling new thriller from Academy Award® winner Susanne Bier.”

Bird Box hits Netflix on December 21, 2018.
