The Comic Source Podcast

Jace and Jay, who is back after a bought with Covid, are here to chat about some of the books they have already had the chance to check out for the week of August 25, 2021. All reviews are spoiler-free so take a listen for all the fun. Also Jace gives a rundown on some other titles you might want to be on the lookout for.

Seven Swords #3 – The whole team of Seven Swords finally comes all together in this action-packed third issue. We expect even more action as they take on Cardinal Richelieu to exact their revenge. This title continues to have EXACTLY the kind of swashbuckling feel you would expect from a Three Musketeers title.

Writer – Evan Daugherty, Artist – Federico Dallocchio, Color Aetist – Valentina Bianconi, Letterer – Dave Sharpe

United States of Captain America #3 –  This title continues to celebrate the ideals of Captain America very well. They aren’t the politics of the day, but rather the values that are so inherent to the character & the founding of the country. Working together for the good all, focusing on on our similarities rather than our difference & most of all equality. Also if there is every anyone who deserves to “wear the stripes” it is the Native American Joe Gomez.

Writers – Christopher Cantwell & Darcie Little Badger, Artist – Dale Eaglesham, Penciller – David Cutler, Inker – Roberto Poggi, Color Artist – Matt Milla, Letterer – Joe Caramagna

Department of Truth #12 – This thought-provoking titles throws another twist at us! A trusted member of the team may be up to something that is diametrically opposed to what the Department stands for. Is this just to keep the DOT in check? It very well maybe as we get some context regarding just how powerful it is to control (mis)information.

Writer – James Tynion IV, Artist – Martin Simmonds, Letterer – Aditya Bidikar

Syphon #2 – Sylas learns from Anthony about what the power of the Syphon power can do, but as we know, and he discovers, Anthony doesn’t exactly have the best interest of others at heart. This issue plays very well into the ideas of altruism inherent in the title. Also this sets up a fantastic confrontation we expect to see in the finale.

Writers – Mohsen Ashraf & Patrick Meaney, Artist – Jeffrey Edwards, Color Artist – John Kalisz, Letterer – Troy Peteri

M.O.M. #2 –  The second issue of this title celebrating feminism and the strength of woman starts off with Maya confiding in friends about her powers and recruiting a team to help her learn how to better use them to help the females of her world who are in danger or being exploited. It’s now quite as tightly plotted or paced as the first issue, but the emotion is still there. Curious to see where it goes from here.

Writers – Emilia Clarke & Marguerite Bennett, Artist – Leila Leiz, Color Artist – Triona Farrell, Letterer – Haley Rose-Lyon
