Shan Fong Mirage is a Valiant Entertainment character that is a former TV personality as well as a paranormal investigator and scientist. She has the ability to see and communicate with the spirits of the dead and also goes by the name Doctor Mirage, which is a name that was given to her by her late husband Hwen Mirage, who thanks to her ability is constantly with her. It’s fair to say that because of her gifts she often interacts with the paranormal. But what would happen if those voices suddenly disappear?
This August, Valiant Entertainment will be releasing a brand new Doctor Mirage series that will find her all of a sudden disconnected from the Deadside, which is where her abilities come from. Since she no longer has her abilities this means that she can no longer communicate with spirits including her late husband. Now she is willing to do whatever it takes to regain her abilities.
The series is written by the very talented Eisner and GLAAD Media Award nominated writer Magdalene Visaggio, who has written amazing stories like Young Animal’s Eternity Girl. The artwork is being handled by Nick Robles with colors by the Eisner Award nominated colorist Jordie Bellaire with letters by Dave Sharpe. “We’re going to visit the parts of Hell even the devil is afraid to go,” teased Mags. “I get to tell a story about someone in her own personal year zero, rebuilding her life from its literal wreckage. I’ve been dying to write Doctor Mirage, she’s a really fascinating character, existing on the edges of a vast and undefined magical universe.”
Being that you get to travel to places that can be subject of interpretation, this gives Robles the opportunity to really get creative and outside the box, something that he is really enjoying. “The genre offers a lot of chances to play with texture, patterns, and things that depict magical and ethereal subjects in fun ways. It really opens the door to crawl out of the box of rules and forge some interesting visuals. I’m having a lot of fun with ways to push and pull this wonderfully weird comic that we’re creating.” You can check out some of the preview pages by Robles and Bellaire below, along with an amazing cover by Philip Tan and Jay David Ramos.
