We have just over one week until Netflix launches the second season of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Last year saw the first four books of the 13-book kids series adapted for the streaming service, and on March 30, we’ll be getting the next five over the course of 10 episodes.
But what can we expect from the new season? As indicated by the title of the show itself…more series of unfortunate events. As smart and gifted as the Baudelaire kids are, their luck is absolutely terrible, and despite their bad circumstances, they’ve learned they can’t rely on grown-ups to help them in any way, shape, or form.
“They realize now they have to take control of their own lives,” star Neil Patrick Harris says in the video. “That they have to take some actual action to rid themselves of these circumstances.”
The result? This season looks poised to have both more action and more puzzling situations for the three kids to weasel their way out of. As someone who has only read the first novel, I have to wonder just how they expect to make the series not get completely old by the third season. How much can they really go through the same thing over and over again?
Here’s hoping they don’t ruin a good thing too early on with this second season.
