Much to the sadness of many fans out there, Guillermo del Toro’s third Hellboy film was canceled a couple years back following one final attempt from the man himself. However, while it was the end of that franchise’s iteration, it was not the end of the franchise as a whole. Not long after, a new iteration was announced, only this time starring David Harbour, and featuring a bloodier take.
“It was always a case of, ‘When in doubt, go back to the source material.’ Some of the stuff is pretty sick,” director Neil Marshall told Empire in a recent interview, referring to the film’s darker, “gore-soaked,” R-rated approach. “More violent and more bloody. We weren’t making it with handcuffs on.”

Admittedly, this new image doesn’t look too different from what we got from Ron Perlman. He’s still got that same face, and he’s still a huge dude. Looks pretty solid so far. However, if you’re worried this will be a brooding, dark take, the trailer released to NYCC fans earlier this year was more fun and even funny than it was dark.
