With just a couple of months left before The Joker starts filming. Its inevitable announcements would be rolling out. The most recent one really has my interest. Namely because I spent most weekdays parked on my parents’ bedroom floor as Batman: The Animated Series played on the TV, weekdays at 3:00pm on The WB. So, when I read the recent casting description for a supporting role it made me all kinds of giddy. Check it out below.
“MR. WARNER Supporting Male (60-70) [MR. WARNER] male, Caucasian, 60s, a deeply-tanned, hair dyed so black it was almost blue, highly successful, New York City businessman, rumored to be running for Mayor. He’s a public figure in the city and a symbol of wealth [STRONG SUPPORTING]”

Who could this character be? Bat-fans probably guessed what I am thinking. It sounds like we may get the big screen debut of Rupert Thorne. In the animated series, Thorne is literally a thorn in Batman’s side. In episode 75, Thorne hires a foreign mercenary with an accent to break the Bat, and that mercenary was none other than Bane from the Knightfall comic book story arc where Batman has his back snapped by Bane.
To top the new off, rumor is that a certain classical leading thespian is circling the role. Could this mean we will see Robert De Niro portray of Rupert Thorne? My hopes are up. Regardless, with Todd Phillips at the helm and stars like Joaquin Phoenix on board and De Niro as a potential, October 2019 is shaping up to be a Batty time at the box office as fans show support for DC.
