This is not the King Arthur tale your father grew up with.

Director Guy Ritchie’s take of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is bringing a new refreshing perspective that blends fantasy and adventure.

The film will be an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern, Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana. The screenplay is written by Joby Harold, Guy Ritchie and Lionel Wigram.

The new poster featuring Charlie Hannum as King Arthur was released earlier this week. It shows him posing with the legendary Excalibur sword.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword will be in theaters for 3D and 2D showings on May 12.
