As someone who is approaching their thirties, I have to say, I am way too excited for a Power Rangers movie. Power Rangers was my jam back in the ‘90s, but looking back at it now, it’s all too clear that the show was a meant for a very specific demographic: young kids. Now, like many big franchises, the aim of this new film is to help widen its target to a more general audience, and thus far, I think they’ve succeeded.

We’re actually not even talking about the tone of the Power Rangers. Yes, it’s understandably aged up the tone so that it has greater appeal to adults, but even the mythology seems to have been amped up to make the film wholly more interesting.

If you haven’t been following, there have been rumors surrounding the new Power Rangers film for some time. More specifically, there were rumors about Rita Repulsa and Zordon actually being former Rangers themselves. This is something that paints Rita in a whole new light in the best way possible, and while it hasn’t been confirmed, all the arrows seem to consistently be pointing in that direction.

If you weren’t sold on the whole concept yet, take a look at this new TV spot, which seems to reinforce that theory yet again.

Check it out below!

Our excitement has been a slow build for this one, and this spot only adds to it.

The synopsis for Power Rangers is as follows:

“Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.”

Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
