New Venom Romantic-Comedy Trailer Pokes Fun At Itself

We take a lot of jabs at Venom here at LRM. With the exception of our official critic Fox Troilo, there really isn’t a lot of love. Granted, we didn’t really wish ill will upon it…but many of us certainly didn’t expect (or really want) it to make well over $800 million worldwide. Why? I mean, at the end of the day, it was a film that sold itself as dark and twisted, and the end product…kind of a mediocre goof.

Well, because it’s 2018, studios are more than a little self-aware about what audiences think of the film, and in the latest Blu-ray trailer for the flick, they poke fun at themselves…Deadpool-style. I’m actually not kidding. They seriously pull a Deadpool, selling themselves as a Romantic-Comedy film, just as Deadpool did way back in the 2015 and 2016 era of filmmaking…all those years ago.

And you know what? This makes sense. On the whole, as much crap as we talk, the fact is, most audiences seem to think the movie was harmless fun. With that in mind, having a silly trailer like this will really only appeal to them much more. And I can’t appreciate the tagline enough: “This holiday season, two worlds become one.”

Venom is set to come out on December 11 on Digital and Blu-ray on December 18! ‘Tis the season!
