Nick Frost Says Truth Seekers Is A ‘Love Letter’ To The X-Files

The new show from the duo, Truth Seekers, which will stream on Amazon Prime shakes up the duo of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg’s usual buddy-buddy formula, hopefully proving that even things that aren’t broke, can be fixed. While Pegg plays the boss of Frost’s Gus character, a new challenger in Samson Kayo will be Frost’s on screen buddy this time around. Frost explains to Variety below.

“I’ve used Simon as much as I can, and now…I’ve upgraded to Samson Kayo. I didn’t want this to be a Simon Pegg and a Nick Frost thing. Simon helped create it and write and he plays Dave (Gus’ shady boss), so there’s lots there for Simon Pegg fans. But I wanted it to be a different groovy gang.”

Frost and Kayo play a pair of broadband installers who moonlight as paranormal investigators. Frost says the show, at least in one way is a tribute to the classic Sci-fi series The X-Files. The shows share the same type of format in a different monster each week. Usually I try to stay away from problem of the week type shows, but as long as there is a bigger overall arc that advances along, I can dig it, especially a project coming from Frost and Pegg.

Frost explains what they had in mind for the series below.

“We wanted something which wasn’t necessarily British in feel. We wanted it to be a bit Scooby gang-ish, but also with a story that’s getting bigger and bigger as the world opens up to them.”

Frost continued talking about how to blend comedy and horror, a mixed genre that Frost and Pegg excel at.

“You don’t write a comedy script and add jumps, or write something horrific and add jokes. It’s just a very natural way to write. You’re writing a mystery with characters who are funny because humans are funny and weird and flawed and broken, so all your characters can be all those things. You can have a creeping sense of foreboding and it also the same time it also being funny without having to undercut any of the jokes or the jumps.”

Truth Seekers hits Amazon Prime tomorrow, October 31.
