Nicky Fury is heading to Disney+.
Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has been around since the very beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, he was the very thread that tied all of those movies together early on. Between him and Agent Coulson, audiences were able to weave in and out of each of those movies and fully understand just how they connected. And through all the character deaths and universe shifts we have seen, Nick Fury has managed to somehow stay alive.
It was inevitable that Nick Fury would get his own Disney+ show at some point. Now, according to Variety that is exactly what’s happening. And, of course, Samuel L. Jackson himself will be reprising his role as everyone’s favorite former S.H.I.E.L.D. director. Set to write and executive produce is Kyle Bradsheet.
Bradsheet is perhaps best known for his work on the stellar USA Network show Mr. Robot. In fact, it’s that tech-savvy paranoid thriller aspect that I’m looking forward to being carried over to a Nick Fury-centric tale. While we have seen the Marvel universe explode into the galactic side of things, there is still plenty of room to tell more grounded espionage stories
Then again, last we saw Fury, he was chillin’ with the Skrulls in space, so it’s possible this series could actually be a space-faring one. Sadly, we have no story details, so we really don’t know which way things will go. Regardless, the Nick Fury series is the latest in what is guaranteed to be a long string of Disney+ shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
