In what some may call a surprising bit of casting, veteran actor Nick Nolte has joined the cast of the upcoming Star Wars universe series, The Mandalorian, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While Nolte may have fallen out of the spotlight over the last several years, he has been nominated for three Oscars over his career and can certainly bring something interesting to the show.
Nolte will be joining a cast that includes Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos) who is set to lead the series, along with for MMA fighter turned actress, Gina Carano (Deadpool). Some may find this casting odd, but it’s hard to judge without knowing the type of character Nolte will be playing. The series is currently in production, so hopefully it won’t be much longer before some character descriptions are released.

The series was created and will at least in part be directed by Jon Favreau, who himself was s part of another piece of Star Wars content, in Solo: A Star Wars Story, voicing the character Rio Durant.
You can read an official synopsis of the upcoming series series below.
“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
