Some time before Disney actually acquired Fox, there was talk of a potential Doctor Doom movie. In fact, there was talk of a LOT of different movies based on the Marvel characters Fox owned. But even back then, this project still stood out. Spearheading the project was none other than Noah Hawley, who many of you know from Legion and Fargo.

But in the time since his involvement was first revealed, things have changed. Disney owns Fox now, and as far as we can tell, they plan on using the Fantastic Four characters for their own devices. While it’s unknown if Doctor Doom plays into that, it’s a good bet that they at least have some ideas.

So what does this means for Hawley’s movie? Where do things stand with it? Here’s what Hawley had to say to Deadline.

“I mean, where it stands is now that the movie is done and Legion is done and I’ve taken a little time off because someone told me there was this word ‘vacation,’ which means you don’t work, which sounded really interesting to me. But you know, I need to circle back to them and announce that I would love to make it and figure out if that’s something that is possible. Whether or not they already have a plan in place for what to do with those characters or whether they’re open to my kind of vision for what to do with those characters. But it’s sort of on me right now to go push them, which I will do as soon as I come up for air.”

So, as it stands, it looks like there is little to no momentum on this project. Hawley will be taking a vacation, and as soon as he’s done, he’ll talk to them. If they like his idea, we may see this thing start to gain some steam. While that is a bit promising, at the rate Marvel is going, he’ll need to hurry up, lest Marvel Studios use the character first.
