Obi-Wan Kenobi Director Plays Coy On Qui-Gon Rumors And Doesn’t Rule Out Further Stories

Deborah Chow, the Obi-Wan Kenobi director plays coy on those Qui-Gon rumors. Chow also doesn’t completely rule out further stories for Obi-Wan. At least in a slightly different timeline. Though, she does stress this show was designed as a limited series with a beginning, middle, and end. Chow recently was interviewed for Total Film Magazine, and their website Games Radar covered Chows responses.

Chow was asked about whether Liam Neeson could return as Qui-Gon Jinn?

“Obi-Wan’s going on a journey,” she says. “There’s going to be different people that come into his life. One of the things I was trying to do with this series was to have the legacy, and who is important in Obi-Wan’s life, and to also have some new characters. So it’s going to be a mixture of the two. But I do think there are some surprises to come. I hope.”

Very diplomatic answer, and really gives nothing away. If we are to believe the many leaks for this show, which I do, then Jinn does make an appearance. However for a show that’s had as many leaks as this one has, let’s allow them to maintain some sense of surprise.

We know Obi-Wan Kenobi is designed as a limited series. However Chow isn’t ready to rule out further stories with Kenobi in the future.

“We really did conceive this like a beginning, middle, and end,” she continues. “It is one big story, and it was always meant to be. You can never tell what happens in the future. But, if another series were to happen, it would be the same process of making sure that there was a real story to tell. Ours is obviously very connected to the prequels, but I love the idea that there can be more stories that are all over the timeline.”

As far as I am concerned, Lucasfilm needs to be careful. We can’t, I don’t think, have Obi-Wan travelling all around the Galaxy slipping through Vader’s fingers each week. Yet if this show is very well done and loved by the fans, perhaps a completely different story could be told in a few years’ time? Something that does not involve Vader, but an Obi-Wan already on his way to being the calm collected master we see in the Star Wars movies.

The problem will always be, what could be serious enough to get Kenobi to leave Tatooine? In this show we think we know something important enough to get him to leave Luke, but you can’t play that card every time. What about a completely Tatooine based show or movie like many fans just assumed this would be to begin with?

What do you think of Deborah Chow’s comments as the Obi-Wan Kenobi director plays coy on Qui-Gon rumors and also doesn’t rule out further stories with this character. As always, let us know your thoughts below. Personally I’ll wait to see this show first before I even think about seeing Kenobi elsewhere.
