Warner Bros. has released the new trailer for the upcoming film, Ocean’s 8, starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. Check it out above.

For nearly couple years now, we’ve known that we’d be getting a celebrity-packed spinoff to the George Clooney-starring Ocean’s 11. Except instead of a nearly all-male cast, we’d be getting an all-female cast of thieves to carry out whatever mission this is, and the leader would be Danny Ocean’s sister, Debbie Ocean.

I know, it sounds like another misguided genderswapped story. Why not give the talented cast their own franchise rather than giving them the sloppy seconds of an old one, right? Regardless, because of the talent involved — including director Gary Ross — it’s worth at least giving the film a shot.

So how does this trailer hold up? It definitely has that classic Ocean’s 11 feel to it, which is a great thing. Additionally, based on this trailer, I got the distinct impression that this one holds up incredibly well on its own — spinoff or not.

But of course, when it comes to capers, it’s easy to sell those in a trailer. The true test will come when the movie actually hits, and its convoluted narrative can be seen in full. What do you think of this trailer? Let us know down below!

Ocean’s 8 hits theaters on June 8, 2018.

Leaving room for Oceans 9 and 10….

Hey Jammer, I agree with your sentiments. When I first heard of it I thought a lazy gender swapped reboot. However, the trailer gives me hope. It felt ‘smart’.That’s the best term I can use. As in it appears based off 2:33 that a good effort was put into the film.

Financially I think it’s going to be a big success. It would seem to a film that is seen as perfect for “date night” but could forseeably capture each demographic of moviegoer from possibly teens, certainly young adults and baby boomers. And yes, as Danny B said first, Oceans 8 I do not think is an accident leaving room for a trilogy if successful.

yeah now this looks like a great way to swap gender roles in a movie without it feeling forced or patronizing … see people dont mind seeing female movies just make it good and dont force it on people to have to like it (looking at you ghostbusters)

Ghostbusters was endlessly patronizing – the producers knew it and blew it.

This looks interesting if for no other reason then , well, everyone should just take a moment to pause the scene when she’s in the mausoleum and see whose grave she’s sitting in front of!

nice catch didnt see that … is he def dead?

Definitely looks better than the female Ghostbusters garbage movie. I wanted to hate this, but upon viewing the trailer it actually looks decent.

LMAO, when this s#it bombs, I wonder what excuse will they pull out of their arse to justify it: Busy summer blockbuster season/too much stiff competition or male fans that still live in their mother’s basement.

Also, nobody has ever in the history of ever said that a group of females were incapable of successfully pulling off a heist; so what is this film setting out to prove by pretty much ripping off a script of Ocean’s Eleven and simply gender swapping it with female roles that fill the cookie cutter genre that’s needed to fill out the team?
