Having made her mark in front of the camera over the years, Olivia Wilde recently transitioned to behind the camera when she made her directorial debut with Booksmart. Released earlier this year, the comedy–focusing on two high overachieving seniors looking to fit four years of partying into one night–earned rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Now, for her second go-round as director, Wilde looks to leave the comedy genre and enter the world of the psychological thriller.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Wilde will be directing the film Don’t Worry, Darling. Based on a story by Shane and Carey Van Dyke (Netflix’s The Silence) and rewritten by Katie Silberman (co-writer of Booksmart), the film is set to be a psychological thriller focusing on a discontented housewife in the 1950s. The film will be produced by Silberman and Roy Lee (It). Since the project is in early stages of development, there is no other information to reveal regarding production date and release.

More than ever before it seems, actors and actresses are taking a crack at stepping behind the camera and learning the craft of filmmaking. Laura Prepon and Natasha Lyonne have both directed episodes of Orange Is The New Black, Jesse Williams has directed episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, and Bradley Cooper directing the critically-acclaimed and award-winning A Star Is Born. Additionally, Wilde’s nearly twenty-year career in the industry as an actress has been balanced mix of comedy, drama, adventure, horror, and suspense. Having been in so many different genres, Wilde can prove to be a multifaceted filmmaker in her career. Making her current bounce from comedy to thriller, it seems that is exactly what she plans to do.
