Without a doubt, one of the most iconic stories in the DC Universe is Batman: Death in the Family. This four-issue mini-series was written by the legendary Jim Starlin, with artwork by Jim Aparo back in 1988. This is the famous story where the Joker kidnaps, tortures, and kills Jason Todd. What also made this story arc memorable, is that fans were able to call in and decided whether or not Jason would survive.
Now thirty-two years later, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is releasing the animated film, Batman: Death in the Family. Just like the comic book decades ago, this film is going to allow viewers to participate in interactive storytelling. They will be able to choose where the story goes through an innovative navigation guided by the viewer’s remote control. It’s important to note that the interactive component will only be available on the Blu-ray. The digital version of the film will offer four fully-played-out linear versions of the short.

Today we received a clip that featured the opening sequence of Batman: Death in the Family. It’s a stylish opening sequence to the animated short that was designed by writer, producer, director Brandon Vietti. Executed by Supervising Technical Director Matt Giardi and his team at Warner Bros. Animation. Check it out above! Also along with that, you can check out some images that were also provided by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment down below!
This moment in this story is key for Jason Todd. As going forward, when he came back via the Lazarus Pit, he was known as the Red Hood. His trauma is currently being explored in the pages of The Three Jokers #2 by Geoff Johns, Jason Fabok, and Brad Anderson. I am excited to try out the interactive feature on this film. Something that we will definetly review in a future DC Weekly column here at LRMOnline.
