Optimus Prime Film Wouldn’t Be Easy, Says Producer

When it was first announced that we would be getting a standalone Bumblebee film, many fans wondered if that meant we’d be getting an Optimus Prime movie eventually. After all, the dude is arguably the most beloved and well-known of the Autobots, so why not? Hell, voice actor Peter Cullen even crashed this year’s Bumblebee Hall H panel requesting there be an Optimus Prime movie.

But how plausible would that be? Even more importantly, would the film actually be any good? That’s a hard question to answer without us considering the various other factors, but it’s a question they’ve definitely pondered over there at Paramount. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura apparently doesn’t think the task would be easy, as he revealed to Metro.

“It will be hard with Optimus, he is always right, very stoic and is a man of few words … It is kind of like saying, ‘Lets do a movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi?’ But how much is there to say about Obi-Wan? It is not so easy.”

On that note…where the hell is my Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off film? I’ve always been steadfastly against Disney returning to beloved characters for their Star Wars films, and even I think that would be a stellar movie. But, removing that terrible analogy, I’ll actually consider his comment regarding Prime’s personality, and the dude has a point.

As far as characters go, he isn’t the most engaging. He isn’t a character as much as he is an ideal — or someone to follow. Of course, that’s just my impression based on the films. As a ’90s kid, the Transformers show was just outside of my time.

But what do you think? Do you agree with Bonaventura? Let us know down below if you’d watch an Optimus Prime film.
