MGM has made a killer choice for their upcoming Addams Family film. According to The Tracking Board, the studio is in negotiations with Star Wars: The Last Jedi star Oscar Isaac to play the role of Gomez in the film.
Of course, this is great news, as Isaac has proven to be quite the thespian in films like Ex Machina and Star Wars. It certainly also helps that he looks a hell of a lot like the character. The downside here, however, is that he won’t be playing a live-action version of the character, but will instead be voicing him. As previously reported, this Addams Family reboot will be of the animated variety — it’s a great choice for the film, but a bit disappointing given how perfect Isaac would be for a live-action take.
The Addams Family is set to be directed by Conrad Vernon, who made a splash last year with his low-budget animated film Sausage Party. The movie will be directed from the screenplay by Corpse Bride scribe Pamela Pettler and newcomer Matt Lieberman.
Currently, Isaac is the only one in the running to take on the film, as the studio is still waiting to close that deal before it goes forward looking for characters like Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Lurch, or Uncle Fester. Needless to say, the successful locking down of Isaac would set the tone for the film going forward, and could bring about other great talents in supporting roles.
