Okay. Elephant in the room. I hated the first Ouija movie back in 2014. In a world where we’re treated to great horror movies like The Witch and The Conjuring exist, flicks like Ouija just don’t cut it. Simply put, the film was boring to me. I’m okay with a bad movie every now and then, but when it falls within that bland area in-between horrifyingly bad and good, it’s pretty much in the territory of forgettable.

That being said, the concept of Ouija is still one with potential, and because I’m a bit masochistic, I think I may be willing to give this prequel a try. As much as my brain is telling me not to trust the marketing, I have to say, this new trailer has me a bit intrigued.

Take a look at it below:

Now, does this look like it’ll redefine the genre? Not at all. It has a creepy little girl — a pretty tired cliche, if I’ve ever seen one, but it also looks like it has a certain movement that the original didn’t have. I don’t think we’ll be spending the entire film sitting around a board game. There’s an extra dynamic that was missing in the first that they may have fixed this time around.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s still plenty of room for this to be bad, but unlike the first one, I’m holding out that this one could still fall under the “entertaining” category. And when going to the movie theater, isn’t that all that matters?
